Lodge Recognizes Contest Winners; First Responders

The Twin Cities Elks recognized local first responders and winners in the local Americanism Essay Contest at a dinner Mar 9 at the Lodge.

 

Volunteers prepared a ham dinner, macaroni and cheese and green bean dinner for 20 Elks and 50 guests.

 

Awards for essays went to six local students: four from the Rocky Bayou Christian Academy; one home schooler; and one from the Okaloosa STEMM Academy. Students were in either Division 1 (fifth or sixth  grade) or Division 2 (seventh or eighth grades). First, second or third place winners received either $100, $75 or $50 respectively. 

 

Winners by division were:

Division 1: first place DT Thomas; second place Joseph Grete; and third place Henry Baltz.

Division 2: first place Sydney Athearn; second place Elias Arvanitakis; and third place Kaitlyn Duffy.
Thomas was also the first place winner for the Elks Northwest District. State results were not available at press time.
 
The Twin Cities Lodge also recognized six local First Responders nominated by their departments for outstanding performances. They included:

Christopher, Niceville Police Department;
Jason Lecoyer, Valparaiso Police Department;
Jason Maines, Niceville Fire Department;
Chad Lee, Valparaiso Fire Department,
Robert Neyendorf, East Niceville Fire Department;
and Alex Barrera, North Bay Fire Department.
