Elks Lodge initiation becomes family tradition. Feb. 2015 MIDWEST CITY — One of Jack M. Roper’s proudest moments took place recently when he had the privilege of initiating his grandson, Jack Malm, into Midwest City Lodge No. 1890 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. With this initiation, Jack M. Roper has had the privilege of initiating two sons, Jack Edward Roper and Scott Roper; a daughter, Melissa Roper Malm; a sonin-law, Dennis Malm; and grandson, Jack Malm, into the Lodge. Roper was initiated into the Elks in 1971 at Pauls Valley and has been an active member ever since. In 1977 he transferred his membership to the Midwest City Lodge and served continuously as an officer until last year. During those years Roper served as a member or chairman of virtually every working committee of the lodge and many at the state level. He served as exalted ruler, or president, of the Midwest City Lodge on three occasions. He was appointed to serve the Grand Lodge of the Order as district deputy in 1981. Roper is a lifetime member of the board of the Oklahoma Elks Major Projects, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the betterment of all Oklahomans through educational and service grants. He is a two-term past president of the OEMP and served seven years as treasurer. He carries the title of past state president, for he was elected to the office of presidentelect of the Oklahoma Elks Association in 2011 and served as president during the 2012-2013 fraternal year. He currently serves the Oklahoma Elks Association as state trustee-at-large. Throughout all these years of involvement with the Elks, Roper has been supported by his wife, Margaret, who he says should be in the Guinness Book of Records as serving brownies and fried chicken to more Elks than anyone else.
