On Monday June 24, 2013, the Lordsburg Elks Lodge hosted a Drug Awareness Event at the Lordsburg Municipal Swimming Pool. The first annual Lordsburg Elks Splash Out Drugs pool party, which had 162 children under the age of 18 registered, offered free swimming, hotdogs, drinks, DJ music, and variety of prizes for all in attendance. Prizes included toys, gift certificates, Splash Out Drugs t-shirts, and an iPod Shuffle. The New Mexico Elks Drug Awareness trailer was on hand with lots of drug awareness information. There was also a special appearance by Elroy T. Elk, the official mascot of the Elks organization. Also in attendance was the New Mexico Elks State Drug Awareness Chair, Suehaye Fraley.
The event was also held in conjunction with a local food drive. Any youth who brought a non-perishable food item was entered into a separate drawing for an iPod Shuffle. The winner of the iPod was Mallory Contreras.
Splash Out Drugs was made possible because of a Beacon
of Hope grant.
