PER Linda Aguirre of Richmond Elks Lodge No. 1251 attended the East Bay Leadership Foundation awards dinner on Saturday May 21, 2011 to see member Edward Downer III honored as their Citizen of the Year. The Tenth Annual awards ceremony was held at the Blackhawk Auto Museum in Danville, California where four awards were given honoring local volunteers and a corporation for their outstanding service to the community.
The Outstanding Citizen of the Year award went to Edward M. Downer III of the Mechanics Bank for his involvement as a leader in the area. Mr. Downer is also a member of Richmond Elks Lodge No. 1251 and works diligently as a Trustee of the Spencer Scholarship Fund, just one of his many activities. A video of each recipient was shown, and after the award was presented each recipient gave a short “thank you” speech. Brother Ed was the last and best speaker.
The John and Jessie Spencer Scholarship Fund Trust was established by Richmond Elks Lodge member John W. Spencer to benefit Richmond, CA and El Cerrito, CA students planning to attend Stanford University or a University of California campus.
Congratulations, Brother Ed!
P.S.: PER Linda Aguirre was in attendance as a member of the Danville Community Band, which played for the event.
