Happy May to you all! It is time for the celebration of Spring, now that it’s finally here. It is also time for the an-nual Give to Lincoln Day, which runs from May 1 thru May 30. iF you like to donate to charitable causes, May is the time to do it! Your donation may have the chance of being matched by sponsors through the Give to Lincoln Day foundation. The Elks #0 Charitable Fund, Inc is listed as a beneficiary, and so your donation would have the chance to be matched and give you a little more bang for your buck!
May also brings a chance to celebrate our local First Re-sponders - we have a dinner planned for May 4th to honor them and provide special recognition for members of LPD, LFR, and LSO. Come and help us celebrate our very own First Responders!
Without them we as citizens would be in a world of hurt. Who else would you call if you needed help Every citizen should honor those who are willing to dare the odds for the greater good. First Responder programs are among the first things established when building a new city, and Lincoln was no different. As the town has grown, so have the number of responders, not to mention the number of responsibilities they carry with them! When we were young most of us dreamed about being a first responder as they were people that we could look up to as heroes. As we grew older, most of us decided to do something else, but some didn't and wanted to serve. So as ELKS, we are very grateful to those that are willing to be on the frontline 24/7, and are going to show our support for them.
May sees several other holidays as well - Mother’s Day on the 12th (go tell your Mother hi, it’ll make her day!), Armed Forces Day on the 1th, and Memorial Day on the 27th.
We should all take a few moments on the 1th and 27th and remember our Veterans who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice, and our loved ones who have passed to realms on high.
May is a busy month and so is your Lodge! Take a look at your Elk-O-Gram to stay informed with all that your Lodge is doing.
So stay safe, Get involved, come to a Lodge Meeting, and just have FUN!
Thanks, Troy ER Lincoln Lodge #80

A Message from the Grand Exalted Ruler
Hon. Randy Shook
May calendar has events for moms, military, youth
May is a busy month for the Elks. There are several different opportunities to show our communities that "Elks Care—Elks Share" and "We Are THE Elks."”
The Elks National Youth Week is celebrated May 1–7. This is an excellent time to show our support for the many programs dedicated to our youth such as scholarships, Hoop Shoot, Drug Awareness, and the Dictionary Project, just to name a few. They demonstrate to our communities the dedication we have for the youth of today and our commitment to helping them become the leaders of tomorrow.
The second Sunday in May is Mother's Day, a time to honor mothers and grandmothers. Our mothers spent endless hours teaching and guiding us, shaping who we are. They inspired us, protected us, taught us about devotion to family, and loved us unconditionally. We give them gifts, take them to dinner, cook them a special dinner, or send them flowers — anything to make them feel as special as they are. To them, Mother’s Day is a day to be surrounded by loving family. Happy Mother's Day.
This is also the month we celebrate Armed Forces Day, on Saturday, May 18. This is the day to say thank you to all men and women in all branches of the military. These individuals protect and defend this great country of ours. Please show them that Elks Care and appreciate their service to our country.
Memorial Day, on May 27, is a time to demonstrate patriotism for our great country, exhibit pride in our flag, and show our commitment and appreciation for those veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice so we can live free. There are many services that honor these deceased military men and women. Please take the time to hold a ceremony or participate in a community remembrance for the heroes who served.
Finally, remember GER Award for DDs deadline is on the 15th. The Annual Report and Annual Charity Report are due May 1.

The Elks National Foundation (ENF) is the non-profit arm of the B.P.O. Elks. It is the support of members that keeps ENF well endowed to be in a position to fund the premier scholarship program, the Most Valuable Student Scholarship competition, the ENF Legacy Scholarship program, and the Emergency Grant Scholarship program, all to the tune of nearly $5M annually. As Elks, we can be very proud of the amount of funding that we provide to our youth to pursue their educational aspirations. ENF also funds the Hoop Shoot free throw program; the Drug Awareness program; and Elks National Veterans Service Commission programs.
The ENF also funds the Community Investments Program (CIP), which is a grant program established to help local lodges fund special projects in their communities, as well as grants to State Associations to help fund larger state projects. Last year, Lodge #80 applied for and received $12,000 in CIP grant money to help fund our outreach to veterans via our pantry and funding of the Veteran’s Advisory Group, in addition to helping City Impact, Malone Center, and We Can Do This to provide assistance to children of low-income families in our community. ENF’s CIP program helps us to be proactive in the Lincoln community, something of which our members can be proud.
Members’ support of ENF is important – and support can mean whatever you want it to mean. The Fidelity Club is a method of establishing a monthly automatic donation for as little as $5. It is possible to include a donation when you pay your dues each year. One-time donations may also be made by check to Elks Lodge #80, designating ENF in the memo line; or they may be made online under the Elks National Foundation tab when you log onto your elks.org member account. Member accounts are easy to set up with your membership number.
All this to say that your annual donation to ENF, in whatever amount you elect, helps the Elks to maintain the moniker of the Best People On Earth by enabling us to be a shining light in our community!
Our inspiring First Responders’ Recognition Dinner is coming up on May 4th (yes, as in May the Fourth be with you – and it certainly will be!). We will have a roomful of First Responders, and we want you to come and meet and greet them. Please call, email, or text your reservation NO LATER THAN Thursday, May 2 at 7p.m. If you contact us after that time, we cannot guarantee you a seat. We hope to see your smiling face!
As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions or need assistance with all things Elk. There is voicemail on the lodge phone, or you may contact me as below. See you at the Lodge!

To All Lodge #80 Membership
The Covid-19 pandemic has truly disrupted and changed our lives in unprecedented ways. Places we used to visit or frequent have changed as we have. We all need to adjust to the new norm.
If you look around Lincoln, you can see the economic impact that we are currently experiencing. For the first time in my life I was left with a very unsettling feeling going to the grocery store and discovering shelf's that had no product on them or please limit yourself to 1, signs.
Even our lodge is struggling to make ends meet. We were given an increase in our property valuation, we were closed for several months, we did not have meals or events scheduled. Revenue that used to flow was nonexistent.
We had to do something. Since we had very limited resources coming in, we had to find ways to reduce costs. One way was to ask the County Tax commissioners to grant us a tax exemption, I am very sure that you have heard the term Quid Pro Quo. (This for that) So in exchange for a considerable savings (to all of us) we had to give up some hours of operation. We did not have to lay off any current employees we simply did not replace, again saving us a large chunk of money. We changed supply companies, soon cable companies, pest control companies and other things just to name a few.
We are making these changes to stay within our financial constraints and to be good Stewards of your money.
I appreciate your understanding. I am looking forward to seeing you all soon
