MARION ELKS DONATION TO BOYS & GIRLS CLUB INSPIRES HOMEWORK

MARION, OH (March, 2005) – Wendy Blankenship, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Marion County, is delighted that over 180 children are registered members of the club’s homework incentive program called “Power Hour.” Now a Marion Elks Lodge No. 32 donation of over $2,000 will help the Boys and Girls Club reward participating kids for doing the hard work required.

“Our Power Hour program is a structured hour every day after school where elementary students concentrate on doing their homework. We have two sites, at both Taft and Garfield Elementary Schools, where the kids can participate in this supervised program,” said Blankenship.

“Thanks to the generous donation from the Elks, we have been able to purchase new books and also buy incentive items that help give our young people a goal and reward for really digging into their homework,” Blankenship said. “This really creates some great working habits. With more student interest, we hope they’ll spread the word and we’ll be able to increase the number of kids we can serve.”
