MARION, OHIO (08-03-04) – Marion Elks Lodge No. 32 is pleased to announce that Greg Winger has earned the Lodge Year 2003-04 Elks Distinguished Citizenship Award. The award was presented by Brad Smith, who was Exalted Ruler for the local fraternal organization last year.
“The Elks Distinguished Citizenship Award is presented to a non-member for outstanding and meritorious service to humanity and community,” said Smith. “Last year the Marion Elks desired to participate locally in the Elks Soccer Shootout for kids. Not knowing a lot about the sport, we approached Greg for his help, and he overwhelmed us with his enthusiasm. He almost single-handedly made our first event possible, producing the special goals, securing the facility and getting together workers to assist the Elk volunteers. It’s safe to say that without Greg Winger’s help, there would be no Elks Soccer shoot for Marion area youth.”
Winger, who is also Head Coach of Boys Varsity Soccer at Marion Harding, and is very active in youth soccer programs, has agreed to head the Elks second annual Soccer Shoot. After the first event scheduled for May 15th was rained out, it has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 4th at the soccer field at the new Harding High School. Registration will start at 8:30 AM, with the Soccer Shoot held from approximately 9 AM till 11 AM. The Elks Soccer Shoot is free of charge and is open to all boys and girls age seven (7) to thirteen (13) years old. All Marion area children are encouraged to attend, and may sign up the day of the event (please arrive around 8:30 AM). Please note a parent’s signature will be required.
Winger is employed at Marion General Hospital and resides in Marion with his wife, Debbie, and their three children Ryan, Tyler and Christopher.
