Saturday,
May 13th, 2023 was a sunny, windy day at the Farmington Fish and
Game Club in New Durham, NH and at 7:30 AM, young fishing enthusiasts descended
upon this beautiful site for the Kids Fishing Derby. The Derby is an annual
event for the children and grand children of Rochester Elks #1393 members.
Chairperson for the event this year was Deanna Souza, Esteemed Leading Knight.
There were 26
children registered and 21 helpers. In addition 18 Elks and 2 helpers
volunteered to run the derby. Fishing went from 8 AM until 10 AM. A break was
taken for lunch served by Elks volunteers. Fishing then resumed until 11 AM.
Trophies
were awarded to the following anglers:
Age Group
5-6: First Fish and Biggest Fish – Julian Cook.
Age Group 7-8: First Fish and Biggest Fish – Lily Allard.
Age Group 9-10: First Fish – Brynn Trepanier. Biggest Fish-Matilda Hudson.
Door prizes
(tackle boxes, nets, etc) were also awarded to contestants.
The Elks are
dedicated to various programs and endeavors, including youth activities. The
Rochester Elks Fishing Derby has been conducted for decades by Lodge volunteers.
