Laughter, shouts of joy and at least one airplane filled the air at the South Dakota Discovery Center on Wednesday.
Well over 100 kids from after school programs or with their parents had come to the center for the sixth annual Aviation Day put on by the local Elks club. Kids were given gliders to take home, had the chance to fly drone simulators and airplane simulators make a parachute and rocket. Not to mention get a first-hand look at military aviation too.
As it happens, giving youngsters an introduction into the world of aviation is point of Aviation Day, said Steve Wegner, who chairs the Elks committee that plans the event every year.
