Luau summary

To Whom it May Concern,

I had arrived well before 8 a.m. on Saturday Sept. 14th, glanced at the room and could not imagine how we could make this place look like a party. I began digging through the boxes of decorations that had accumulated over the years. Soon there became the
“definite pile”, the “maybe pile” and the “no way pile”. As 9:00 a.m. approached and no one else had arrived
I decided that we would at least have nicely decorated tables. I came upon the box of things Marcy Holly had
dropped off that were left from her daughter’s Hawaiian theme party. There was lots of stuff to put on the tables with the fish bowls and glass fish I had found. Needless to say I was getting pretty nervous when Dean finally arrived. Then Linda and Dave
Strang arrived and I just knew everything would work out. Before long we had plenty of people to help decorate which was good because we did not have a clue about those trees! Being a “not very creative” person, it always amazes me what others can do.
Therefore, we were real fortunate creative people showed up because the decorations in the Lodge room, dining room, and lounge were wonderful! And to my amazement we used all the decorations in the definite and maybe piles, plus some new ones we had
purchased, and even many in the no way pile. You need to see the over 100 photo’s that Larry Glass took in living color to appreciate it.

As to the festivities, if you were not there you missed out! The evening started with drinks and fruit served
in the lounge. I was glad there were people who did not like kiwi because that left more for me. I also
learned if Aaron asks you if you want to try one of the new special drinks for the luau you should say no – they were very sweet but boy did they have a kick to them! Oh, and of course there was the joke about being lei-d, but we won’t go there. The dinner buffet
was delicious and I would like to say thank you to the staff for all their effort. If you missed the clam
chowder – too bad – because there wasn’t any left! I know I ate my share with no problem. After dinner we
all moseyed into the Lodge room for the dancing/games part of the evening. It was a good thing I can’t dance much because of my bad knees or all those
women Dean danced with would have missed out! I don’t think anyone had to go to the hospital with a broken foot fortunately. Before the night ended we had danced or listened to the chicken dance, the hokey-pokey, the limbo, and every other type of music
the DJ could play. We had talked, met, and enjoyed all the wonderful people who attended and knew we had another great memory to add to our mental scrapbook.

Respectfully submitted,
First Lady, Janie Davis
