December 2, 2019: Veterans Committee Meeting
Members Present: Lindsey Williams, Veterans Committee Chair; Vickie Smith, Recording Secretary; Yvonne Woodfin, Welcome Home Coordinator; James Herron; Terri Rynerson; and Doreen Goodnight.
Discussed the Elks National Veterans Service Commission Welcome Home Kit program. This Elks sponsored program is designed to assist homeless Veterans who complete a Department of Veterans Affairs homeless transition program. Yvonne Woodfin, Welcome Home coordinator for our Veterans Committee, identified 7 Veterans who have completed this program through the HUD‐Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Unit located in Tulsa, OK. Yvonne provided the committee with information regarding the needs of these Veterans. The Tulsa Elks Lodge provided the financial support to meet those needs. The committee members voted go shopping for these items and present them to the patient case managers on December 19, 2019. Vickie Smith, Shopping Coordinator, scheduled the shopping dates and the documenting of the purchases.
December 14, 2019: The Laying of the Wreaths Ceremony, Ft Gibson National Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, OK. On December 14, 2019, Lindsey Williams, Veterans Committee Chair attended the Laying of Christmas Wreaths for our buried heroes. Upon completion of the ceremony, Lindsey had an opportunity to place a wreath upon many soldiers. The missing in action were also honored.
December 19, 2019: Lindsey Williams and James Herron delivered 6 baskets to the HUD‐VASH case managers for the Department of Veterans Affairs at 10159 E. 11th St in Tulsa, OK. Elk member James Herron is an artist who paints portraits that focus on our military. James provided a free portrait for each of the Veterans baskets. Lindsey L.
