Frank J. Italiano Americanism Award

Santa Monica Elks Patriots of the Year

 

The first Italiano Americanism Award was given to Blaise G. Wm. La Manna for his outstanding services to his country and lodge on Sept. 15, 2005. Peter, with wife Lauren Italiano, and Steve, with wife Miriam Italiano, was at the Lodge to help make the presentation. Alice was there in spirit as well as Frank's big smile.

The second award was given to PER Robbie Robinson. Robbie has been very instrumental in the Lodge success with National Veteran's Committee. Robbie served in the military and is currently a member at the Santa Monica Masonic and Venice American Legion.

The third award was given to Esteemed Leading Knight Frank Frazier. Frank has been a member for 40 years. He is a Viet-Nam era veteran for the U.S. Navy. As Lecturing Knight and Loyal Knight, he placed 1st in the District for his position. He has done many different committee chairs to include Major Project, Youth Services, Hoop Shoot, Soccer Shoot, and Drug Awareness and helped with Veteran's Programs. Frank is an instrumental cog in the 906 Elks wheel and dedicated to Elkdom and the Venice American Legion. The award was presented to Frank by Peter Italiano.

The fourth recipient was awarded the Italiano Award. His name is Joe Eorio. Mr. Eorio, at 94 years young, is a 62 year Life Member of the 906 Elks. He was a WWII Captain in the Army. He has been awarded the Bronze Star with V for Valor, a Purple Heart and the Chiang Kai-shek Medal (actually awarded to him by Chiang Kai-shek). Mr. Eorio was instrumental in several committees within the Lodge over the past 62 years. When the Lodge was on 21st Street he recalls fond memories on doing some work in the building.

The fifth recipient was awarded the Italiano Award. His name is Tom Scully, PER. Tom is a retired Marine Sergeant of WWII era. He is a 50 year member and was most involved with the community in the Veteran's Memorial in Santa Monica and now at Woodlawn Cemetery. Peter Italiano was present to hand the award to Mr. Scully.

The sixth was awarded the Italiano Award. His name is Ken Lady, PDDGER. Ken is a retired LAPD Detective. He served honorably in the US Army. Ken is a 45 year member of the Santa Monica Elks. Ken is a native of Santa Monica and a second generation Elk.

The seventh award was given to R.A. Pickett, PER. RA served honorably in the US Army. He is an 11 year member of the Elks of 906. RA has served on many Lodge committees as well as District committees and State Scholarship Judge.

Don Checchi, PDDGER has been elected as the eighth awardee of the Italiano Award for Americanism. Don, a Life Member of the Order, has served on several committees in the Lodge, District and State levels. He is a 36 year member of the Order. Don was a school teacher in a past life and helped guide young minds to a brilliant future.

The ninth awardee of the Italiano Award for Americanism is Ray Beers, PSVP. Mr. Beers has been a longtime supporter of the Order of Elks and its programs here in Santa Monica. He is a two time Past Exalted Ruler. Ray helps out in every capacity with Kids and Veteran issues throughout the community.

The tenth awardee of the Italiano Award for Americanism is Ann Scully. Mrs. Scully has been a longtime supporter of the Order of Elks and its programs here in Santa Monica. She is a Past President of the Emblem Club 154. Ann helps out in every capacity with Veteran issues throughout the community.

The eleventh awardee is Ron Fink. Ron is an Army Veteran and volunteers at all events especially those involved with Veterans. He, his wife Sheryl and son Mitch helped form the group the Cheer Chain. Cheer Chain sings at local convalescent homes and veteran events.

The twelfth awardee is Richard Schneidmiller. Richard is an Air Force veteran and volunteers at the Santa Monica hospital. He helps putting on a show at the West LA VA with singing and dancing along with other Elks. Richard and his wife Dorothy are instrumental in stating Operation Toiletry Basket.

The thirteenth awardee is Frank Romleski. Frank is a Marine Corps Frank was eminent in having a POW/MIA night at the Lodge.

The newest awardee is......drum roll please.... will be announced on Sept 7, 2017.

The Frank J. Italiano Americanism Award is a recognition started by Past Esteemed Loyal Knight R.A. Pickett, Esteemed Lecturing Knight Frank Frazier and Margy Pickett for an Elk of outstanding service to lodge and country.

Further nominations must be accepted by the Italiano Americanism Committee consisting of PAVP R.A. Pickett, PER Frank Frazier, PER Margy Pickett, and all past recipients.
