Exalted Rulers Message

Well October is here, a time that we put away our lawn chairs, close up the pool and stack our wood. We say good bye to one season and prepare for another. The same goes for Elkdom.

This month is ENF month and our chair Cathy Voisine has been busy, there will be a new ENF board going up in the lodge that will be dedicated to our departed members. The Past Exalted Rulers have sponsored the new board and Alfred Carpenter, in his wife Muriel’s name, has donated the safety glass. Our ENF Committee also has a day of music planed for a fundraiser at the high school.

Also coming up is our dictionary program. We will be giving out new dictionaries as well as drug awareness coloring books, crayons and rulers to third graders in our region.

Not everything we do happens at the lodge. The Special Olympics held an event at the fairgrounds and again this year we gave them the use of our booth and helped them out with whatever they needed. A quick shout out to Scott Crosby for taking the lead in that. You may have seen the drug awareness trailer out in front of the lodge. We took it down to the Skowhegan 5k Walk/Run for Pancreatic Cancer Research on September 27 and along with Elroy the Elk we passed out around 150 drug awareness packets to children along with ribbons, apples and candy. Special thanks to our Drug Awareness chair Jessica Voisine, Mindy Beckwith (Elroy) and Darrell Gallant.

Although this next item is a November event I would like to get an early reminder out there! On Sunday the 9th the Veterans Committee will be holding a flag retirement ceremony in conjunction with the American Legion and local Boy Scouts at our lodge. There will be a flag folding ceremony as well as a free Veteran’s lunch to follow. If you have flags that need to be retired feel free to drop them off at the lodge.

“ As the flag is close to our hearts as loyal Americans so is it close to our alter as loyal Elks”
