Scholarship Opportunities by Stan Stone
WENTZ LEGACY Scholarship Applications due July 10, 2010
This scholarship is for Elks members, their spouses, children, step-children and/or grandchildren.
This scholarship is for the 2010-11 academic year and is for $2,000.
The applicant must be a college junior or senior in an accredited four-year American College or University.
Although the applicant may be attending a University elsewhere, the applicant's permanent address must be within the jurisdiction of an Arkansas Elks Lodge.
The qualifying Elk must be a member of an Arkansas Lodge.
If you are interested in applying for this scholarship, you may receive an application from Jan/Stan Stone (918-839-7581), copy one off the Lodge's bulletin board in the hallway, or print one off the main website: www.elks.org (then select the scholarship button).

JENNY VAN (Senior at Fort Smith Northside) has now been chosen by the State MVS Judging Committee to advance to the NATIONAL LEVEL. Only three applications from the State of Arkansas are allowed to advance. This is a great accomplishment for Jenny, Lodge 341, and Arkansas.
Jenny is now required to fill out a second application which includes a detailed statement of financial need and a personal essay. This application is due to Chicago by March 1.

JENNY VAN (FS Northside HS) HAS BEEN CHOSEN TO ADVANCE TO THE STATE LEVEL. We should know by January 18 if Jenny is a National Finalist in the MVS Scholarship coompetition. WAY TO GO, JENNY!!!! ELKS LODGE 341 IS BEHIND YOU ALL THE WAY TO ORLANDO!!!! GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

These seniors and their families were honored at the November 28 Pizza Dinner by Fort Smith Elks Lodge and its members. Seniors were given an Award Certificate by Jan Stone and Debbie Anderson.
Their applications will be forwarded to the District Level which will be judged by December 21. Winners' applications at this level will then be forwarded on to the State Level.

Do you have a child, stepchild, or grandchild that is a Senior in High School this year and plans to attend College after graduation? Could this person use some cash to help with tuition, books, or room & board? Then read on. The Elks National Foundation offers 3 scholarships/grants that may be of great benefit to you.
Note: The High School Senior may apply for one or more of the scholarships/grants but can only be the winner of just one. If the student should win more than one, then the scholarship/grant with the highest money value will be awarded.
(1)ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION'S 2010 MOST VALUABLE STUDENT:
This scholarship is for ANY high school senior. The student does NOT have to have a family member that is a member of an Elks Lodge.
This scholarship offers 500 scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $60,000. Specifically, 18 scholarships range from $8,000 to $60,000 and 482 scholarships are for $4,000.
Applications may be dispersed beginning September 1 and are due in to Stan Stone by November 1, 2009. There are a variety of documents that must be included as part of the application process so get your application as soon as possible. Applications can be printed from the following online website (www.elks.org/enf/scholars).
Applications will be judged on a point basis regarding scholarship, leadership, and financial need.
National finalists will be announced a few months later. Those finalists who wish to pursue the scholarships must then submit a second application.
You may get your initial application two ways: 1) print it online at www.elks.org (click on the scholarships link); or, (2) contact Stan Stone at 918-839-7586 OR firstname.lastname@example.org
If you decide to print the application yourself, be sure to contact Stan and let him know you are in the process of completing the application. He will be able to give you hints throughout the process in order to help you have a better chance in winning a scholarship and also set a time/place to turn it in to him. Absolutely NO late entries will be accepted.

This scholarship is for children, stepchildren, or grandchildren of Elks members. There are 250 Legacy Awards given each year in the amount of $4,000 ($1,000 per year for 4 years).
Online applications will be available on September 1 and the deadline to submit the completed form online is January 8, 2010. For applications, go to the www.elks.org website and click on the scholarships link. Applications for this scholarship are online only and must be submitted online as well. If you do not have access to a computer, please contact Stan Stone at 918-839-7586.
No financial statement or proof of financial need is required; however, the parent, step-parent, or grandparent must have been a member in good standing of a Lodge on or before April 1, 2007.
The high school senior student must have take the ACT or SAT test by December 31, 2009 to be eligible.
Applications will be judged in accordance to Knowledge, Charity, Community, and Integrity.
Winners will be announced around May 1, 2010.

(3)EMERGENCY EDUCATIONAL GRANTS -- for students who have graduated high school and are already attending college fullt ime.
This $4,000 per year grant is for children of deceased parent(s) or of parent(s) who have been determined totally disabled. In both cases, the Elk parent must have been a member in good standing for at least one year. Financial need must be proved.
Student must be unmarried and 23 years of age or younger. Student must already be attending college full time (12 hours or more).
Applications may be printed online or received by Stan Stone after July 1, 2009. Completed applications must be returned to Stan by December 31, 2009.
This grant may be renewed 3 times (each year for 3 years). Renewal dates are from July 1 to October 31 each year.
