Veteran's Corner
Thanks to everyone who donated clothes, hygiene products, and food in April for our first drive to support the homeless and under-privileged veterans in our community. We gave $640 worth to US VETS INC. There are boxes of books and clothing already collected for our May turn-in. Thanks for your generosity! It's a great start!
Good news, our free "Veterans Pancake Breakfast" is back by popular demand! We have all the fixins! This event is for Veteran Elks Members and the struggling Veterans at USVETS INC downtown. Come join us and enjoy a great hot breakfast at the lodge on Saturday 8 June 0800-1000. Volunteers welcome too! Let's show the veterans how much Elks appreciate their service and sacrifice to our nation. See you there!
I attended a meeting on 22 May to kick-off our preparation for the Veterans Stand Down event in October. It prepares our vets for cold winter months. Our involvement will be given in future articles.
This year's veteran program committee is assembled and ready to serve you! Marc Lancaster, Phil Floyd, and Bertie Marvin have stepped -up to assist me in planning, coordinating, and executing each event and the multiple VA-based programs designed to meet the immediate needs of the past and present soldiers in our NLV community throughout the year. We will work with our old allies and some new support organizations designed to meet specific needs of our Elks veterans first and then those in the surrounding community. Not an easy task!
To meet our goals, we need our lodge veterans to contact us & provide details of their specific needs. We are here to serve you first. Next, we need feedback on how to increase participation in two worthy causes, VA visits and USO services. Would carpools help? Remember, even family members can support our veterans at the VA hospital. It only takes a few hours each month. Hours, numbers, and mileage must recorded and tracked. Please keep me informed of your service monthly. VA programs and details are available on lodge bulletin board. It's going to take a great team effort to cover all the areas listed. Thanks for your dedication and support. Looking forward to another successful month!
