District Hoop Shoot Held January 10, 2010

The Devils Lake Elks Lodge #1216 sponsored the annual district hoop shoot contest on Sunday, January 10, 2010. Thirty-seven (37) boys and girls ages 8-13 participated in the event from the schools of Adams-Edmore, North Star (Cando-Bisbee-Egeland), Dakota Prairie, Four Winds, Devils Lake, Leeds, Maddock an Rock Lake. 1st place winners in each age division are as follows: (Back Row, L-R) – 8-9 Boys – Carter Anderson (Dakota Prairie), 10-11 Boys – Lane Ritterman (Leeds) & 12-13 Boys – Jonathan Skjervheim (Adams-Edmore) (Front Row, L-R) – 8-9 Girls – Mattea Vetsch (Devils Lake), 10-11 Girls – Jessee Rude (Devils Lake) & 12-13 Girls – Sarah Hagler (North Star - Cando) First place winners from each division moved on to the state competition on Saturday, January 16th in Jamestown. State winners move on to the regional competition March 6 in Rapid City, SD. The National Hoop Shoot Finals will be held on April 24, 2010 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Over three million youngsters from throughout the country entered last year’s competition for boys and girls in age categories 8-9; 10-11; and 12-13. Each contestant has 25 free-throw shots. The boy and girl in each age group with the best scores advance through four tiers of competition, including regional and state competition to qualify for the national finals in Springfield, Massachusetts. LOCAL HOOP SHOOT HELD DECEMBER 1, 2009 The Devils Lake Elks Lodge 1216 sponsored its annual hoop shoot contest on Tuesday, December 1. Thirty-three (33) boys and girls ages 8-13 participated in the event. 1st place winners in each age division will move on to a regional competition in January. They are as follows: (Back Row, L-R) - 10-11 Boys – Jacob Mertens, 12-13 Boys – Dylan Moore & 8-9 Boys – Braden Fee (Front Row, L-R) – 10-11 Girls – Jessee Rude, 12-13 Girls – Jayden Fee & 8-9 Girls – Mattea Vetsch The regional competition will be held in Devils Lake on January 10th at the Devils Lake Sports Center. Regional event winners will move on to the state competition on January 16th at the Jamestown Civic Center.
