George Washington's Welcome Parade

Description: Five years ago our Lodge was one of the biggest hits of the City of New Bern 300th Anniversary Parade. Fifty-six brother and sister Elks, escorting and carrying a 20 by 30 foot American Flag, with great pride. I know you especially remember making that right hand turn from Broad Street onto Middle Street and everyone along the sides of the street standing up and cheering, it was a proud moment for us all. Well, if you would like to relive that moment, or if you missed that opportunity, you have a new chance to feel that pride. The New Bern Preservation Society is hosting a parade in conjunction with the George Washington Tour, on April 25th, and has invited our Lodge to participate. The Exalted Ruler loves a parade, so we have accepted the invitation, and all officers are looking for your support. “The Flag” that was carried for the 300th has been destroyed, so for this parade we will be carrying a brand new 20x30 foot American flag, in use for the first time. We will need approximately 50 members, who are capable of walking ¾ of a mile in military style, wearing a solid white top, (shirt, golf shirt, sweat shirt, sweater), tan slacks, shorts, skirt, white shoes or white sneakers, NO hats, and attend the rehearsal. The rehearsal will be Thursday evening the 23rd, with a rain date of Friday, the 24th at the Lodge. So, please sign up at the Lodge, and make us all proud.
