New Faces on the Court

Just as it’s hard to imagine Thanksgiving without turkey, or rock and roll without Elvis Presley, it’s hard to imagine the Hoop Shoot without Regional Director Frank Bonner. After 33 years at the helm in Northeast Central Region 5, Bonner has decided to hang up his jersey. Even after all of those years on the court, his favorite part of the Hoop Shoot is simple:

“I love the competition and watching the smiles on contestants’ faces.”

We are grateful for his hard work on behalf of the program, and for his commitment to the Hoop Shoot’s ongoing success.

Hoop Shoot program veteran and Pennsylvania State Hoop Shoot Director Steve Lucas of Tyrone, Pa., Lodge No. 212 has been tapped to step up to the line in Region 5.

“I’m looking forward to being more involved in another level of competition, and working with the families from New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania,” says Lucas. “It’s a great honor to hold this new position and to follow in the footsteps of those before me.”

Lucas will begin his new role by running the Northeast Central Region 5 contest on March 28, 2015, and then join the rest of the Regional Director team in Springfield for the 2015 Nationals. Join the ENF in welcoming him to his new position on the team!

Through the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Program, the Elks National Foundation offers youth the opportunity to engage in healthy competition, connect with their families and community, and succeed both on and off the court. In 2014-15, the ENF allocated $825,160 to fund this program. For more information on the Hoop Shoot, visit www.elks.org/hoopshoot.
