Good News from Lodge #2188

DVD movies going to Landstuhl Medical Center, Germany: A shipment of new DVDs will be on their way next week to Landstuhl Medical Center. This could be the first time in the history of Arlington-Fairfax Elks Lodge #2188 that the members directly supported a project for a military hospital overseas. The Veterans Services Committee received a private donation of new DVD movies for the project, and then purchased additional new DVD movies to go along with this donation. The shipment will go to the Chaplain's office and then distributed to the library at the various wards that now have individual bedside entertainment centers.

Landstuhl Medical Center is located near Ramstein Air Force Base. Wounded members of the U.S. military arrive at the receiving center after an overnight flight directly from Iraq. After treatment at the center, the veterans are flown to various hospitals in the United States. One wounded veteran recalls "To land in Landstuhl is to know that you are alive, and the voices you hear come from people dedicated to keeping you that way." On average, transport planes land twice a day at Ramstein AFB carrying about a dozen to more than 50 patients.

One chaplain was overheard telling a new patient "You're at Landstuhl Hospital in Germany. I'm here to let you know that you are safe and that we are going to take care of you. God's blessing to you!"
