The ENF is proud to announce the four Elks scholars who most demonstrated outstanding community service initiatives. Each will receive a $500 Cornerstone Grant. Read about their projects below!

Allison Barr
2006 Most Valuable Student Scholar
Project Fit: An Afterschool Program to Promote Healthy Living

Allison will use her grant to promote healthy living to girls at her local YMCA, through the Project SOAR Mentoring Program. She will hold a biweekly program that will teach the girls to create healthy snacks, engage them in activities such as basketball and demonstrate the benefits of healthy eating and exercise.

2007 Legacy Award Scholar
Quicker Clean-Up

Allison, a Study-Time Volunteer at StormBreak, a group home for adolescent girls dealing with emotional issues who are working towards permanency with family or foster care, will use her grant to purchase a dishwasher and food storage containers for the home. These purchases will facilitate faster clean-up after dinner, allowing for more study time for the girls, and encouraging responsibility and independence.

Samson Lim
2006 Most Valuable Student Scholar
2009 Summer Workshops in Seattle: Secrets to Becoming a Scholarship Junkie

To help students earn scholarship money for college, Samson will use his grant to enhance Scholarship Junkies, the scholarship resource program he founded in 2006. This summer, he plans to deliver a series of workshops geared toward low-income students in Seattle, providing them with scholarship tips, resources and success stories.

Angela Suen
2005 Most Valuable Student Scholar
The Children’s Oral Health and Nutrition Project

Angela will promote healthy living in rural El Salvador by using her grant to purchase and distribute toothbrushes and toothpaste to accompany her workshops on nutrition, dental hygiene and health care options.
