The Oklahoma Elks State Major Projects, OEMP, supports a variety of projects.
OEMP has been a proud sponsor of Special Olympics, Oklahoma, since 1977. Special Olympics Oklahoma is the fifth largest in the country and provides year round sports training and competition to children and adults with mental and physical handicaps.
Cadet Lawman Academy is a partnership between OEMP and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, it brings 140 high school juniors to Burns Flat, OK each year to be schooled in defensive driving, firearm safety and respect for law enforcement. OEMP provides funding for the students and instructors food, clothing and housing for an entire week.
Each year 20 students are awarded $800 scholarships through the Art Bartunek Scholarship Program. These scholarships are funded through the Earl E. James Endowment Fund, Oklahoma Elk's Charitable Trust and OEMP contributions.
Each year over 100 children participate in Camp O'Leary Diabetic Youth Camp. Camp O'Leary provides youth with an enjoyable learning experience to learn the basic physiology of diabetes and how to become self-reliant and self-confident in controlling their own diabetes. OEMP helps cover registration fees for those who require help in paying them.
OEMP defrays operating costs for the Valley Hope Treatment Center and Next Step Network. These two facilities are devoted to treating patients for alcohol and drug use.
Partially funded, OEMP's newest project, Special Camporee, presented by BSA Troop 999, is a program which allows handicapped individuals to experience the same exciting and fun activities that scouts do when they are at camp.
OEMP also lends financial support to the Oklahoma Elks Drug Awareness Program.
