Host a UR Choice UR Voice Event at Your Lodge
Are you unable to get involved with Milton’s Tour, but want to share the UR Choice UR Voice video with students in your area? No problem! Host a UR Choice UR Voice Drug Awareness Night at your Lodge.
Before the Event
Before the event, be sure to spread the word. Post flyers around your community, at local Lodges, and at local elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. You may want to time your event to coincide with Red Ribbon Week.
To help fund your event, apply for a $2,000 Elks National Foundation Promise Grant. Applications are available starting July 1 to the first 500 Lodges who pledge to hold a youth event. Submit your application early to secure funding for your UR Choice UR Voice event! For details, click here.
Be sure to get the community involved! In addition to inviting Elks members to participate, engage Elks scholars in your area, or other programs participants by inviting them to volunteer. Click here to invite Elks scholars to participate. This is a great opportunity to show the community all of the good work the Elks do!
During the Drug Awareness Night
At the event, provide snacks or refreshments for those who attend. Introduce the program by explaining the Elks National Drug Awareness Program, and its relationship to Milton Creagh. You can use the UR Choice UR Voice brochure for an example of introductory text.
Select a Lodge member to facilitate video discussion. You may want to distribute the pre-test to participants before screening the video.
Allow ample time to screen the video. The music video is only a few minutes long, and the documentary program is 30 minutes. After the program, allow time for audience participation. Invite participants to share their stories and reactions to the video. Depending on your audience, you may want to guide the conversation by using the Elks National Drug Awareness Program discussion guide, found on the inside of the UR Choice UR Voice brochures.
Be sure to have Elks brochures on hand to distribute to all participants. Depending on the age level of your audience, you should have information on other Drug Awareness Program initiatives, Hoop Shoot, Soccer Shoot, Elks scholarships, and other youth event.
After the Event
After the Drug Awareness Night, have participants complete the post-test to assess what they have learned. Be sure to distribute brochures, and have a sign up sheet with contact information for those interested in getting more involved with the Drug Awareness Program, or any other Elks programs.
Gather feedback by encouraging participants to complete a survey, sharing their thoughts on UR Choice UR Voice.
