Our Programs

With a grant of $100,000, the Elks National Foundation was established in 1928 as the charitable arm of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Today, the charitable trust has net assets of more than $360 million. Donations to the principal fund are never spent. Only income from the trust can be used. This year, the Foundation appropriated $12.2 million in support of the Order's philanthropic programs including college scholarships, Hoop Shoot, Drug Awareness Program, National Veterans Service Commission and the Elks National Home.

Since its inception in 1983, the Elks Drug Awareness Program has worked to prevent drug use by our youth through education. The Elks recognize that they are not experts in the field of drug education. However, we do have the resources -- in dollars, facilities and volunteers -- to work with the experts to ensure that young people know the facts about drugs. Drug Education
The Elks National Foundation annually awards $3.4 million in scholarships and grants. Scholarships The Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest is the largest and most visible of the many youth activities sponsored by Elks Lodges. More than three million boys and girls, ages 8-13, will participate this year. Youth Activities
So long as there are veterans in our hospitals, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them ...  Veterans Services The Elks National Home in Bedford, Virginia, has been called the best-kept secret in Elkdom. Not any more. We've never been very good about keeping secrets.  Elks National Home
Each of the state Elks associations has a major charitable project. These projects range from children's hospitals to cancer and transplantation research, summer camps for diasadvantaged kids to in-home treatment for people with disabilities, establishing safe havens for abused families to college scholarship programs. Collectively, the Elks state associations contribute more than $40.5 million a year in support of these programs. State Associations
