Top 10 Stories of 2012

From serving veterans to meeting needs in local communities, 2012 was a great year for the ENF. While we were busy helping Elks build stronger communities, you were busy reading about our progress. Here are the 10 most-read stories from 2012.

  1. A Hand Up: During November’s Veterans Remembrance Month, the ENF shared ways your Lodge can offer a “hand up” to local veterans.
  2. Leading the Way: Four years ago, the ENF awarded its first Impact Grants. Read about this inaugural class of Impact Grant graduates and their amazing accomplishments.
  3. Local Hoop Shoot Contests: Local Hoop Shoot contests began in September. Here is a recap of two of those competitions.
  4. Gunther & Lee Weigel Medical School scholarships:The ENF awarded its second round of Gunther & Lee Weigel Medical School scholarships. Thanks to the generosity of Mrs. Gunther Weigel, these six Elks scholars will each receive $20,000 to pursue their dreams of becoming doctors.
  5. Top MVS Scholars: Where Are They Now?: Ever wonder what the top Most Valuable Student scholarship winners go on to do after college? The Elks National Foundation caught up with 13 former Most Valuable Student top winners to find out. Here’s what they had to say.

  7. 25 Lodges in 25 Days: In the 25 days leading up to the announcement of the Lodges who will receive 2012 Impact Grants, we profiled a different Impact Grant project, showing how Lodges used these grants of up to $10,000 to serve their communities.
  8. Blinded by the Light: In 2012, the ENF Board of Trustees approved funding for Beacon Grants, the newest component of the Community Investments Program. Starting on July 1, every Lodge became eligible to apply for this $1,000 grant.
  9. With Gratitude: Before heading to Harvard last fall, the top two Most Valuable Student scholarship winners flew to Austin, Texas to thank their Elks family and accept their $60,000 Most Valuable Student scholarships. Watch the videos of their speeches.
